5pm StratCat Willie & The Strays with John Shoemaker StratCat Willie Hayes began his musical career as Bill Hayes in 1963 playing with one of the first rock bands to form in Corning, the Ferns. They played high school pep rallies and dances, “Greek” dances, and the Lakeside Roller Rink on Keuka Lake. Willie was an original member of the band Xyphus, formed in 1972, and later played many years with Bruno’s Parents & Friends. Most recently, in 1996, he formed Blues Plate Special, a local blues project which has several CDs of original material. Hayes can be seen performing with Blues Plate Special, as well as with Led Foot, aboard Captain Bill’s Cruise in the summer, and with StratCat Willie & the Strays, a blues band with a mix of great players. John Shoemaker started out in the Corning music scene in the mid-1960s with the Red, White and Blues band. In 1970 he helped found COAL, 7 pieces with brass, which played far and wide, once opening for Jam Factory at the Corning War Memorial Stadium. John has since played with various bands locally and in the Midwest, including Xyphus and the Ks. 7pm BLAKE BLAKE has been together since 1973 and still performs with its four original band members: Mike Madigan– guitar (Syracuse, NY), Jake Jacobson– guitar (Freeville, NY), Jeff Petrie– drums (Rochester, NY) and Bill Bennett– bass (Hill City, SD). BLAKE’s eclectic repertoire features well-known songs from the vintage vinyl era by artists such as the Rolling Stones, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton, Neil Young, Bob Seger and many others. BLAKE also performs FM classics, current rock radio favorites and recognizable deep album nuggets that appeal to nearly every musical taste. 9pm Sam Pallet Band Back in 1986, Mike Giannone was on break during the night shift at Erwin Plant and got to playing around whiting out letters on boxes. He spilled the bottle of white out, which happened to cover some of the letters in a “Sample Pallet” sticker so that it read “Sam Pallet”. Giannone, who was in the group “8’s and Ace’s” at the time, thought it would be a cool band name and filed it away in his head in case he needed it in the future. Not long after that he put together a band for his own wedding and, voila, Sam Pallet was born. The band has gone through numerous personnel changes but it’s still going strong over three decades later. Prepare to party when Mike and the band take over the stage. Mike Giannone– guitar and vocals Jake Lampman– piano and vocals Bucky Sheldon– bass and vocals J.J. Johnson– drums There will be a $5 cover at the door
